Education

  • The UF College of Dentistry is the only state-supported dental institution in Florida.
  • The Class of 2006 achieved a 100 percent first-time pass rate on the Florida licensure examination. This marks the third consecutive time that UFCD seniors have achieved a 100 percent first-time pass rate on the Florida board exam.
  • More than 1,500 applications were received for the 80 openings in the D.M.D. class entering in 2007—this represents an increase in applicants of more than 100 percent from 2003.

Research

  • Oral Biology Department is No. 1 in US based on NIH research funding. Oral biology faculty includes national leaders in oral infectious diseases and immunology research.
  • Implementation of the Florida Research Infrastructure Enhancement Plan (NIH/NIDCR U24) resulted in the hiring of seven new research faculty members. In addition, five clinical faculty members have entered into the Pipeline Program seeking formal mentored research training with the goal of developing independent, NIH-funded clinical research initiatives.
  • The college is nationally recognized for its oral health research enterprise, emphasizing infectious diseases in dentistry, bone biology, pain & neurosciences, and translational research to improve clinical dental care.

Patient Care

  • Through the Statewide Network for Community Oral Health, the UF College of Dentistry is one of the largest providers of affordable and indigent dental services in Florida.
  • The college was awarded a $5.65 million gift, $4 million of which is eligible for state match, from the Naples Children and Education Foundation to develop a pediatric dental program on the Collier County campus of Edison College.
