UNIAccess Conversion

UniAccess: Conversion of Pegasus Inbox, Folders & E-mail to GroupWise

1) Clean Up Pegasus messages, removing all messages no longer needed
2) Create new folder to hold copies of INBOX mail.
3) Copy Inbox mail to the Folder created in step #2.
4) Verify mail was copied to fold created in step #1 and verify mail and attachments will open.
5) Verify that there are NO folders in Pegasus Mail with the same name as folders already existing in the GroupWise mail folder.
6) If the UniAccess Application is not listed under Start\Programs\Uniaccess, install the Uniaccess application from: Start\Repair\Uniaccess.
7) Execute the UniAccess Application

8) Select: Message Folders; click: Next

9) Select: Pegasus for the "Convert From:" drop down menu; Select GroupWise Gateway in the "Convert To:" drop down menu

10) Using the 'Select' button, browse to the User's "pmail" directory. Pmail is contained in the user's home directory. You MUST select a "*.PPM" file in the 'pmail' directory.

11) Enter the User's GroupWise account name and above noted Gateway Output Directory path. You will need to type the path in vs browsing for it.

12) Select ALL folders to be converted from Pegasus Mail to GroupWise. Click 'Next'. Note: The list of folders to be converted should be all inclusive of all folders that currently exist in Pegasus Mail.

13) This screen lists miscellaneous options that can be used during the conversion. If any of these options are desired, they MUST be set BEFORE the conversion is executed.

  • Convert only those: By entering a string here, you tell UniAccess to convert only those messages that contain the given string. Leave this field blank if you want to convert all messages. You may indicate whether UniAccess should search message text and/or attachments. You may also indicate whether the search should be case significant or not.
  • Max Attachment Size: This field allows you to limit the size of attachments that are converted. Enter a number representing the maximum byte size, in thousands (e.g. if you don't want any attachments greater than 100,000 bytes, enter 100). If an attachment is too large, it will be removed from the message, and replaced by a short text file, indicating the original size and name of the attachment. If you want all attachments to pass, enter all 9's in this field. There is a command line switch that allows you to specify that deleted attachments will be copied to a directory.
  • Max Distribution List: Use this field to cut off a distribution list (to's and cc's) at a given number. Enter the max number: 9999 unless you would like to limit Max. Distribution List size.
  • Oldest Message Date: This option allows you to convert only those messages that were created more recently than the given date. To convert all messages, enter a very old date (such as Jan 1, 1980, the default). Note: "Oldest Message Date:" field cannot be left blank and the earliest date allowed is the default of Jan 1980. Thus, messages saved from dates prior to Jan 1980 will NOT be converted to the GroupWise system.
  • Message Store: This field appears only if you are converting to a system that supports multiple message stores, such as Exchange or Outlook. In that case, you may select the message store from the drop down list.
  • Name Conversion: For many conversions, the original email address of people on the distribution list will not make any sense in the new system. This field allows you to create an Internet style address based on a display name. For example, "John Smith" can be converted to "jsmith@comaxis.com". This is done by entering tags, representing various name parts, along with the new domain name. The supported tags are as follows:
        1. /FI First character of first name
        2. /FN First name
        3. /MI First character of middle name
        4. /MN Middle name
        5. /LI First character of last name
        6. /LN Last name
        7. /UC Tell UniAccess to make address uppercase
        8. /LC Tell UniAccess to make address lowercase
        9. /NQ Do not include quotes or <> characters

ii. For example, say your original display name is "John Smith". With a conversion value of "/FI/LN@comaxis.com", the converted address will be "JSmith@comaxis.com". A conversion value of "/FN_/LN/LC@comaxis.com" would yield "john_smith@comaxis.com".

14) Click 'Start' to begin the Pegasus to GroupWise e-mail conversion.

15) Once the conversion has completed, the above screen will display a summary report of the total messages/folders that were converted from Pegasus to GroupWise.

16) The folders/messages converted from Pegasus Mail to GroupWise are now stored in Folders created in the GroupWise 'Cabinet'. The Pegasus E-mail folders that were converted to the GroupWise e-mail system are created as sub-folders of the "Pegasus Folders' folder which is created in the GroupWise "Cabinet".

Issues:

  • Pmail messages converted in this manner do not offer a 'reply' feature for these e-mails.
  • E-mail of original e-mail author listed in the 'message body' of the converted e-mail
  • In the instance of Original e-mail as a 'forwarded message', person forwarding message to user has e-mail address listed in the 'message body' of the converted e-mail, whereas original e-mail creator & e-mail is listed in the "From" portion of the converted GroupWise e-mail
  • Whereas original message, forwarded to convertee, was sent to ITCSA (group)….. Original sendee is listed with email address in the 'to;' portion of GW converted mail. ITCSA listed as: TO: in e-mail subject body, no e-mail address listed for the group.
