ACCESS Creating Accounts LAN VPHA 1. Decide on a user id that's available in VPHA (or Nursing), GatorLink, and NERDC, since we prefer all three to be the same. If the user has an existing GatorLink id, that would be the preferred id for the other two. We try to use first initial plus last name. To check VPHA, you can browse the list of home directories. To check GatorLink, you need to have a Customer Service account. To check NERDC, you need to go to TSO and type: idstatus <desired id>, where the response "Unable to locate user" means that the id's not being used. 2. To create the account, go to a DOS prompt, change to the directory N:\BIN\ADMIN and type:
where <group> for VPHA is one of the following: AniRes (Animal Resources users) Bio (Bioengineering) BMS (Biomedical Media Services) BRS (Business Related Services) BS (Building Services) CIO (Health Center CIO Office) CRWH (Center for Research on Women's Health) Dev (Development) DrugInfo (Drug Information Center) ER (External Relations) FD (Facilities Design) HC_Personnel (Health Center Personnel) HC_Plan (Strategic Planning) HC_Purch (Health Center Purchasing) HealthNet (HealthNet) IAIMS (Integrated Advanced Information Management Systems) IRB (Institutional Review Board) ISHP (Institute for Science and Health Policy) OIT (Office of Info Technology) OPI (Office of Public Information) OSAdmin (OS Admin) PP_Supervisors (Physical Plant Supervisors) RM (Resource Management) Stores (Health Center Stores) TLR (Teaching Laboratory Resources) UPD (University Police Department) VPAdmin (VP Office) or where <group> for Nursing is one of the following: Adu (Adult & Elderly Nursing) Env (Health Care Environments & Systems) Fam (Women's, Children's & Family Nursing) Staff (Staff) For example, to create a user id msmith for user Mary A. Smith in Public Information:
For VPHA users, you need to remember to add them manually to the list of CaLANdar users. For Nursing users, you need to remember to manually set their password options using NWAdmin (due to an error in makeuser.bat): check all boxes and set the days between changes to 90.
DOCOM 1. See No. 1 under VPHA. 2. Run NWAdmin, open the unit Med, highlight the department (e.g., Dean), and click on the Create User Object icon (fourth one on toolbar). Type in the login name and last name, check Use Template and Define Additional Properties, click the Browse button, and choose General User Template. Set the default password to docom. Enter the first name, location, and other information.

BOOTING Booting in Safe Mode Checking the Device Manager NETWORK ACCESS LAN connection IP connection Win95/98 WinNT Drive mapping VPHA DOCOM Granting rights to files and folders If the file or folder is in a VPHA user’s personal folder, he or she can grant rights to another user on the UFL tree by right-clicking on it, choosing Properties, clicking the Netware Rights tab, navigating to the department and user id, choosing Add, and checking the boxes for the rights they want them to have. DOCOM users don't have the Access Control over their home folders and can't grant rights, so a System Administrator would need to do it for them. Rather than just being given rights to a file or folder, the user may need to be added to a network group that has access to folders, e.g., the DOCOM group ARReport. To find out what users or groups have access to a particular file or folder, right-click on it, choose Properties, then Netware Rights. The groups or individuals who have rights will be shown in the top box labeled Trustees. If rights are inherited from a higher-level folder rather than being granted to that specific folder or file, you'll need to click the Inherited Rights button to see them.
Checking and Setting Quotas Problems saving, printing, or deleting files may be symptoms of a lack of available network space. To find out how much space a user has available, have them go to a DOS prompt (Start, Programs, then either MS-DOS Prompt in Win95 or Command Prompt in WinNT) and type getquota, which displays Quota, Used, and Free for the current user. If you have appropriate rights, you can type getquota <userid> to display information for another user. With appropriate rights, you can increase the user's quota by typing the command setquota at a DOS prompt, followed by the user id, then either the new total or a plus and the amount of the increase, e.g., setquota <userid> 150m for a new total of 150MB or setquota +50m to add 50MB to the existing quota. To check or set a quota for a shared folder, you need to go to the main shared folder and use the /d option. For example, for one of the subfolders of S:\NURSING, go to NURSING and type getquota . /d; to increase the quota, type setquota . /d followed by the total or the amount of the increase.
Recovering Deleted Network Files Netware enables you to salvage deleted files. The length of time that you have to salvage files varies according to how much space is left on the server, so time is of the essence. Right-click on the folder containing the file, choose Salvage Files, highlight the file(s) you want to restore, and click the Salvage button. If there's already a file in the folder with that name, you'll need to give the salvaged file a different name than it originally had. If the file's not there to be salvaged, it's possible that System Administration can recover it from the backup tape. You'll need to tell them the name of the file and the date of the nightly backup you want it recovered from. Our goal is to provide three things to the people we support: Tools: the appropriate combination of computing hardware and software to allow people to do the work they need to do; Skills: the computing skills and knowledges necessary for them to use their tools efficiently; and Access: the ability to get at any form of electronic data or information needed for decision-making and resource management processes.
