How do I access my files from home?

FTP access to your home directory

FTP access to files is provided by a Netware FTP server. Authorized users can login to the FTP server using their fully distinguished username and password.

We now require all FTP sessions to be encrypted via SSL. This is sometimes referred to as FTP over TLS. FTP clients must support this feature for security reasons. If you need a Windows FTP client that supports SSL, you can download Core FTP.

You need to login using your fully-distinguished NDS username. It will usually be formatted:

.<username>.<organization>.hsc.ufl
where <username> is the username you use to login to your computer at work, and <organization> is one of the following:
  • vpha
  • nursing
  • dean.med
  • emerg.med
Also notice the leading period in the fully-distinguished username. It is important to include it. If you are unsure about your fully-distinguished username, you can ask the IT Center for help.

A sample login configuration for Core FTP is shown above -- note the transfer type has been set to passive mode, which may be necessary if your computer is behind a firewall. Also notice the SSL Options have been set for secure communication with our server, and the client has been told not to save passwords.

Once you are logged in, you should start out in your home directory. You can also switch to other drives. For example, the location //share.itc.health.ufl.edu/share will take you to the SHARE drive.
