How do I add a printer?
Click on Start, Settings, Printers. In the Printers folder, double-click on Add Printer to begin the Add Printer Wizard, then click the Next button on the Welcome screen.
Local Printer
Click Local Printer, then Next. If Windows does not detect the printer and add it automatically, then on the Select the Print Port screen, click Use the Following Port, LPT1, Next. You will need to know the manufacturer of the printer and the model in order to select it on the Add Printer Wizard screen. Select the manufacturer on the left and the model on the right. If your printer is not listed and you have a disk containing a printer driver file, then click the Have Disk button, then Browse, and browse to where the file is located, double-click the file, then click OK.
Network Printer
If the printer is one that is attached to a network port rather than to the back of an individual computer and that can be printed to by multiple users, click Network, then Next.
On the Locate Your Printer screen, click the first option (Type the printer name), then Next.
On the Browse for Printer screen, scroll to the bottom of the Shared Printers box, and double-click on the category NDPS Printers to open it, then double-click on the subcategory NDPS Controlled Access Printers, which will open with two items: UFL and your context (e.g., vpha.hsc.ufl, dean.med.hsc.ufl, nursing.hsc.ufl).
While printers used to be listed in the individual contexts, they are now all in itc.hsc.ufl. To get there, double-click on UFL, then UFL again, HSC, ITC, Print. All of the ITC printers are listed there in alphabetical order. If you do not know the name of the printer or cannot determine which one it is from its location (e.g., the printer named COMM110 is a College of Medicine printer in Room M-110), you might want to ask someone else who prints to the printer to look in their Printers folder and tell you the name. Otherwise, call the IT Center at 273-5300 for assistance.
