Commodity IT Services

FY2009-2010 Commodity Price List

Backup / Disaster recovery

Disaster recovery services are provide by HSC Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) Services connected to our two IBM LTO3/LTO4 Tape Libraries. Current capacity is approximately 900 Terabytes compressed or 450 Terabytes RAW at each site. Disaster Recovery Data Retention Polices are driven by HSC Legal Policy requirements and unique Policy Domains. Consumers of this resource have full capacities to do backup and restore functions independently 24/7/365. Secure Offsite copies of all data is made daily to our Offsite Tivoli Services hosted in the NWRDC secure data center in Tallahassee. Library and LTO drive expansions were completed in August 2008.

File Storage

File Services are provided by a Four Node Active-Active Microsoft File Cluster attached to our XIOTech Fiber Channel Storage Area Network Econo Class 10K Disks. We are current providing File Services for approximately 3250 customers across the HSC Enterprise. Our current File Storage Usage is approximately 10.8 Terabytes. All storage is RAID 10 and fully redundant. Remote Access to File Storage is available through HSC VPN resources. Units are afforded both HOME and SHARE space to accommodate business requirements. Backups are completed nightly via TSM. A new five node Windows 2008 cluster will be provisioned late winter 2009.

Network Printing Services

Network Print Services is provided by two Windows 2003 hosts (one 64 bit and one 32bit) attached to UF Active Directory resources. All supported printers can be browsed to in the UF Active Directory and installed per workstation/per user with a single mouse click. Printers can be restricted by customer group or individual as required by business requirements. Support for multi-function (print/scan/copy) devices is very limited and it is imperative that these be identified before purchase. Please contact IT Center Customer Support (273-5300) prior to purchasing any printer intended for network use.

Email and Calendaring Services

Email Services are provided by a Two Node Active-Passive Microsoft File Cluster attached to our XIOTech Fiber Channel Storage Area Network Enterprise Class 15K Disks. We are current providing Email Services for approximately 4400 customers across the HSC Enterprise. Our current Email Storage Capacity is approximately 4.375 Terabyte usable. All storage is RAID 10 and fully redundant. Backups are completed nightly via CommVault Galaxy providing single email restore capabilities daily. A second two node Windows 2008 cluster will be provisioned Novemeber 2009 for capacity expansion and accomodation of HSC Student Email.

Blackberry Remote Handheld Computing Services

As a default side offering coupled with our Email and Calendaring Services, we provide secure connections to this environment via BlackBerry Enterprise Server. Consumers can enjoy secure remote access to their email, calendar, contacts, and task through a secure BlackBerry Handheld interface. Blackberry Services meet all the HSC Security Polices and Standards for Portable Computing Device usage. We do not provide hardware or service plans. Contact your Cell Phone provider for information on their specific BlackBerry Device offerings.

Database Hosting

Database Hosting Services are provided by both Oracle 9i Enterprise and Microsoft SQL 2005 64 bit instances. The Microsoft SQL 2005 instance is attached to our XIOTech Fiber Channel Storage Area Network Enterprise Class 15K Disks. We are current providing databases for several units throughout the HSC Enterprise. We can provide development instances for use in development and testing phases of your projects in our Virtual Hosting model. Storage Capacity per database is based upon client and application requirements. All storage is RAID 10 and fully redundant. Two new SQL2008 Hosts will be provisioned on a Virtual Cluster in October and November 2009 to meet new service and restricted data compliance requirements.

Website Hosting/ Web Application Hosting

Website hosting is facilitated by both Apache and Microsoft IIS instances attached to our Microsoft File Cluster. We current support over 70 individual Website/domains with static HTML, PHP, ASP and .NET scripting. Our primary domains are www.med.ufl.edu and www.health.ufl.edu, however we provide hosting for any valid ufl.edu domain as well as other related to UF Institute and Center related businesses. Remote access to web content files is available through HSC VPN resources as it resides on our File Cluster.

Virtual Server Hosting

Server hosting is facilitated predominantly by virtual hosting. All server hardware supported by IT Center Systems Administration Team is Hewlett Packard and IBM. We support no other vendor hardware. Virtual hosting is provide by a two - 3 node Virtual Infrastructure Clusters (VI 3.5update3) with High Availability and VMotion across all nodes within a cluster. The VI 3.5 clusters are attached to our XIOTech Fiber Channel Storage Area Network. We currently support Windows 2003, Windows 2008 and Redhat Linux 4/5 as Virtual Machines. Virtual Server support is primarily limited to support of the Operating System level. Application support beyond core embedded technology is supported by the owner or designee. A new five node vSphere Cluster will be provisioned in December 2008 to expand hosting capabilities for both servers and virtual desktops.

Virtual Workstation Hosting

Virtual Workstation Hosting is facilitated by leveraging the VMWare VIEW and vSphere environments. Virtual Worksation hosting is provide by a single - 3 node Virtual Infrastructure Clusters (VI 3.5update3) with High Availability and VMotion across all nodes within a cluster. The VI 3.5 clusters are attached to our XIOTech Fiber Channel Storage Area Network. We currently support only Windows XPSP3 as Virtual Machines. Plans for adoption of Windows 7 are in the testing phase. Two flavors of workstation are currently available, Persistent and Non-Persistent. Virtual Workstation support is primarily limited to support of the Operating System level. Application support beyond core embedded technology is supported by the owner or designee. A new five node vSphere Cluster will be provisioned in December 2008 to expand hosting capabilities for both servers and virtual desktops.


Automatic Patch Management (WSUS)

IT Center WSUS Services are provided by a single host WSUS 3.0 instance. We are currently providing WSUS Services for approximately 2000 customers across the HSC Enterprise. Our current default polices push only Security and Critical Updates to Windows 2000 Service Pack 4, XP Service Pack 3,Windows Vista and Windows 7 hosts. This includes Security and Critical patches for the 2003 and 2007 Office Suite of applications. Service Packs can be pushed by exception only. Host update timing and reboot behavior are controlled by client settings managed by solely by the Department through GPO or registry imports. Host groupings are based on Department/College affiliations. Separate rules sets for other patch activities can be arranged by groups, for example (Office or OS Service Packs.) Centralized Patch Management Compliance Reporting is available by Group monthly. Patch management approvals occur based on Microsoft monthly release schedule.
