Teaching Lab/Distance Education Scheduling Policies

Fall and Spring Semester scheduling starts out on a magnetic board showing room, day of the week and class period/time. Summer classes are light enough that the magnetic board is not used.

Room assignments are given according to:

  • class size, room size, class type (lab, classroom or distance) and time/period needed.
  • if a class meets three times a week ie: Monday, Wednesday and Friday 6th period.
If possible we will schedule the same room each of those days at the same time. Several colleges do not schedule classes at the same time on the same days for the entire semester. These courses are sited after all classes meeting at the same time on the same day for the entire semester have been placed.

After all Health Center class/distance education requirements have been received and placed on the magnetic board for either semester, the information is transferred from the board to the EMS computer scheduling program.
  • At this point all classes are set for the semester and any one time events, ie: seminars, conferences, meetings, exams, etc. will be entered into the schedule around the regular classes scheduled.
  • If a class is requested after the one time events have been entered into the schedule, the one time events may be changed to accommodate the class.
Classes scheduled during the previous semester are kept on the magnetic board in the same time and day until the following semester is finalized, unless:
  • that college asks to change the room, time or day for the upcoming semester.
  • that class size increases or decreases (course enrollments are checked by us every semester) through the Registrar.
  • another class/college has an increase/decrease in size (if a Dental class of 80 uses C1-9 which seats 131 every Tuesday 6th period for the fall semester and a Nursing class of 120 needs space at the same time/period and day, the Dental class would be asked to move to a smaller room, if available.)
We attempt to schedule all classes and utilize room space so that the most efficient use of available resources occurs. We make every attempt to service everyone equitably.
